| Where
did you attend school & what was your major? |
|
My first masters degree was in school counseling, K-12 from MTSU. I am
now completing my second masters degree in mental health counseling from
Argosy University. |
| How
long have you been at Eakin? |
|
This is my seventh year at Eakin. |
| Do
you have previous teaching experience? |
|
I worked in Williamson County immediately upon finishing my first
masters degree in a school where I was part-time. I wanted a full-time
position, so I applied at Eakin! |
| What
led you to teaching? |
|
I became a school counselor initially to help children with self-esteem
issues. I thought if I could help children find their strengths, then
they would be happier and healthier adults. Now, I continue to counsel
for many different reasons, mainly because I hope to help children work
through their struggles so there will be light at the end of their
tunnels. |
| What
is your favorite part of teaching and interacting with children?
Do you have any special interests or what is your favorite part
of the school year? |
|
I feel lucky because I am able to interact with children on individual,
small group, and large group levels each day. I find joy in each of
these settings. When I'm one-on-one, I can enjoy the connection with
that one child and see him or her grow in a magnified way. In small
groups, I can help children connect with each other and learn from the
different ideas and trust that is built in such a setting. In large
groups, learning can occur in a less intense, but in a far-reaching way.
My favorite part of the school year is right after the holidays when
children are settled in their classes, refreshed, and ready to learn
again! I also enjoy watching children rush into the school each morning
with happy faces- that let's me know that we are doing something right
at Eakin! |
