Room Parent Meeting  Minutes 11/16 /05 
Rooms represented: Schoen, Lomas, Hagan, Ashby, Light, Walker, Rudisill, Debord, Bunt, Hopkins, Schoen, Quiggins 
 
Pictures
There has been some negative feedback re: the picture quality but most of the comments have been that this year is an improvement over last year.  Some thought that this year was more expensive & did not like they were unable to buy just 2 5X7s.  Tania is checking to see when the makeup pictures will be in.
Still to come ... a spring picture as well as a class picture. 
 PRESALE before the holiday break.   Must have all orders in by 2/6.  This year the yearbooks will be done by the same company doing the pictures. Since this is Eakin's first year with them they will furnish the hard back cover for the year book.  Not sure of total cost of year book ( varies based on # of pages) but should be around $12.  The year book will not have a cover specific to each child as it did last year.  Families with multiple kids at Eakin may only need to purchase 1 yearbook.  
There was a lot of discussion re: Student exchange or school pictures & organized signing of yearbook sessions.  Concerns raised re: those that could not or choose not to purchase pictures/yearbooks.  Several ideas brought up:   i.e. yearbook fairy to provide for those that can't purchase, offer to have some give a little bit more to got toward cost of those that can't purchase year books. Do not have a formal yearbook signing at class, just let students do it if they want to.  Also suggested that there be a "signature page" that everyone would get one & then could have classmates sign- this page could be inserted into a year book if student had one.  NO DEFINITE CONCLUSION REACHED.

Holidays  gift Idea for Teachers & Eakin Staff- 
Joell Appell who orders and sells for Eakin Wear has done some checking  for the PTO and found that she can order a tote bag with the "Eakin gives you the world" slogan on it (and a world--- like what is on the shirts) for  about. $13.  The idea is to be able to order enough totes for all teachers and supported staff to each have one for Christmas.   Each room to raise enough money for their bag plus a little extra so we would have enough money to order for all the Eakin staff.   Each room would only need to come up with  $20    for the tote and then any extra that is raised could go towards purchasing things to put in the bag as an additional gift for the teacher.  Dana Mennen will get Gwen info re: exact cost so that this info can be communicated to all room parent. 
  

OTHER:
Directory- when will the directory be out?  Gwen will ask Tania to see if we can get an idea.  Many raised concerns that creating a class roster to use as well as turn in for the directory was very difficult-  most of the issues/obstacle were r/t concern for privacy & could this info be given out to the room parent, who had the info etc.  Gwen will discuss with Tania & see if we can come up with different method for next year.  Suggested including a section on the student info card sent home on the first day a section for "May use this info in the directory, on a class roster, can give out to room parent" would be helpful.
